Toyota Prius - In a Class of its Own
The humble looking, well-priced, fuel-efficient Toyota Prius can be credited for many revolutions in the automobile industry.
When it was first introduced in 1997, it was the first ever mass-produced hybrid car in the world. It took nearly four years for the Prius to reach the U.S in 2001, but by 2008 it had already hit the one million milestone in terms of sales. While many other manufacturers are now starting their green car projects, this hybrid hatchback is already running in its third generation.
The new generation Toyota Prius is marked by mature looks and aerodynamics which further improve its fuel efficiency. The upcoming Toyota Prius "v" will be an extended hatchback wagon with an additional 50% of cargo space.
Prius Exterior and Interior
The Toyota Prius flaunts an updated design and a new facelift that adds more aerodynamic styling carved brilliantly to give it a sleek sporty look.
The exterior is complimented by a more spacious and well-built cabin than most green cars on the market. There are a total of five trims, from Prius One to Prius Five. Depending on the features you choose from, your Prius can easily transform from an economy green car to a luxury vehicle.
Performance and Powertrain
The new generation Toyota Prius receives its power from three sources: a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine combined with a pair of electric motor/generators, as well as a specialized continuously variable transmission (CVT). Toyota Prius is good enough for a total of 135 horse power.
The major reason behind Prius' popularity is the EPA estimated fuel economy figure, delivering an incredible 50 miles per gallon. With this fuel economy, it offers out-of-class performance.
You can drive a Toyota Prius in one of the four driving modes: Normal, Eco, Power and EV.
Prius Safety and Features
Prius is not just one of the most economical vehicles on the road, it is also one of the safest. It has earned respectable ratings on several different crash and safety tests conducted by the government and private organizations. The Prius comes standard with:
- stability and traction control
- antilock disc brakes
- driver knee airbags
- options for the pre-collision and lane departure warning systems
As for other features, each trim offered for Toyota Prius can actually transform the whole personality of your car. A Prius One will be your humble little family car with full power accessories, a height-adjustable driver seat and a 60/40-split-folding rear seat, etc. On the other hand, Prius Five can be a luxury ride loaded with features such as foglamps and LED headlamps with auto-leveling and washers. You can further refine your car with a Navigation package or the Advanced Technology Package.
In addition to going green in the environment and at the gas station, drivers still consider the Toyota Prius for the quiet and comfortable ride, safety, and versatility.
